Radio 1 Simon Bates Around the World Challenge badge, 1989
Rare badge from 1989’s Radio 1 Around the World Challenge, which saw Simon Bates and producer Jonathan Ruffle travel the globe, broadcasting from multiple countries en route and raising money for Oxfam.
Following in the footsteps of literary character, Phileas Fogg, they aimed to beat the then-World Record of 67 days. In the end, it took 78 days but raised over £300,000 for Oxfam.
